Excitement crackled in the air as the SIMPLE project team leader, Alexis Drogoul, met with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) team in Bangkok, Thailand recently. This pivotal meeting marked a major step forward in preparing for the launch of the Sustainability Issues and Metaverse for Building Participatory Learning Environments (SIMPLE) project.
With a shared vision of harnessing the power of virtual reality (VR) for environmental education, both teams were eager to dive into the development of immersive virtual worlds (VUs) that will soon be used in classrooms across the Lower Mekong countries. These VUs, tailored to local contexts and environmental challenges, will engage young minds in an interactive and impactful way.

Bridging the Gap through Virtual Experiences:
The project believes that VR has the potential to revolutionize the way young people learn about environmental issues. By immersing them in realistic simulations, we can break down complex concepts and make them relatable, sparking critical thinking and a desire to make a difference.
The NSTDA team echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting their expertise in technology development and their commitment to supporting innovative solutions for sustainable development. Together, they discussed the technical framework for the VUs, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for students.
Empowering Young Changemakers:
The SIMPLE project’s goal extends beyond simply raising awareness. It aims to equip young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to become active participants in building a more sustainable future. The VUs will provide opportunities for students to experiment with solutions, collaborate on projects, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The SIMPLE project is a testament to the power of collaboration. With partners from the French Institut of Research for Development (IRD) and Can Tho University (CTU) joining forces with NSTDA, the project boasts a diverse team of experts with a shared passion for environmental education and innovation.
As the launch of the SIMPLE project draws closer, the excitement is palpable. This collaborative effort has the potential to reshape the landscape of environmental education, empowering young minds and paving the way for a more sustainable future in the Lower Mekong region and beyond.
Stay tuned for updates on the development of the SIMPLE VUs and witness the transformative power of VR in education!
