COMMUNICATION OFFICER (SIMPLE)

The structure you will join
The French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) is a public French scientific and technological institution that has been working for 75 years in countries of the Global South. It is under the dual authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Its research, expertise, valorization and training activities aim at contributing to the economic, social and cultural development of the Global South. IRD in Vietnam (http://vietnam.ird.fr/), through its International Joint Laboratory ACROSS (http://across-lab.org) has been awarded in 2023 a funding by the EuropeAid “Green Partnership with ASEAN” program to develop, with partner schools in the Lower Mekong countries (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam), a set of sustainability virtual universes, i.e., educational solutions based on the integration of immersive virtual reality environments with serious games and scientific simulations.
This project, called SIMPLE, is a collaborative initiative co-funded by the European Union, designed to raise awareness among young audiences in the Lower Mekong countries (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam) of the challenges and opportunities associated with
sustainable environmental solutions. The project aims to achieve this through the development and implementation of “virtual sustainability universes” in pilot schools. These environments will enable young people to experience first-hand environmental challenges and explore potential solutions. Engaging games are designed to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to sustainability issues. Interactive simulations will enhance understanding of the science behind environmental issues and the impact of proposed policies.

An attractive mission

In close cooperation with the project members, you will support the implementation of the communication strategy, from planning content on internet and social media to event organization and participation.

Activities:

● Regularly meeting the team leader and members in order to gather information about the project and to identify key stories
● Researching content ideas and data.
● Planning the monthly social media content calendar.
● Creating engaging and interactive social media contents and campaigns.

● Writing website articles to achieve a better understanding and visibility of the project by different publics
● Maintaining the project’s website up to date with relevant information
● Monitoring media and relevant publications.
● Supporting the organization of various public events (at local and national level)
● Reaching out to news outlets, local media, and relevant partners
● Monitoring the progress of communication indicators such as social media engagement, website visits, participation in public events…
● Ensuring all content complies with the EU and the project guidelines, as well as the project graphical charter.
● Ensuring EU’s visibility.
● Supporting the organization of the ASEAN contest and research for sponsors

Profile

Skills:
● Proficient in MS Office, Internet, and social media applications
● Good knowledge of social media trends
● Experience with media relations
● Ability to read, write, and speak in English
● Excellent communication, report writing, and analytical skills
● Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to quickly adapt to multiple priorities
● Detail-oriented, organized, independent, and rigorous
● Graphic design skills are a plus
● Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment

Degree and experience:
● At least a bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations or related fields
● At least 2 years of experience with social media, communication strategy, and event organization

Benefits
Environment:
The position is located in Hanoi, in the premises of the ACROSS laboratory, a multicultural laboratory at the heart of the city. The work will be conducted in close coordination with the team of the SIMPLE project, the project managers in Can Tho (Vietnam) and Bangkok (Thailand).
The position will imply travels to attend events and produce content.

Salary:
Depending on the candidate’s profile, experience, and requests, an individual proposal will be made after the interview. Proposals will start from 13.500.000 VND/month for a part-time position.
